Breik aux Dattes - Date Pastries
- 14 oz. Filo
- 12 oz. Dates dried and pitted
- 1/4 Cup Almonds chopped
- 1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
- 2 Egg yolks
- 1 lb. Sugar
- 1 Cup Water
- 2 tsp. Lemon juice
- 1/2 Orange zested
- 3 Tbls. Honey
- 2-3 Drops Vanilla extract
Mix the filling ingredients together.
Bring water to boil. Add lemon juice and orange zest. Simmer for 10 minutes and stir in honey and vanilla extract and stir well. Let cool.
Use about one tablespoon of filling for each filo sheet and fold into a triangle.
Arrange on greased baking tray and brush tops with melted butter. Bake in preheated 350°F (180°C) oven for 30-40 minutes, until crisp and golen.
As pastries come out of oven, plunge into cold syrup. Leave for a minute and transfer to a serving dish. Serve hot or cold.
